Privacy policy

In short

aprs.fm has no accounts, adverts, analytics or tracking cookies. We keep as little about visitors as we can. If you send us feedback, we store what you send.

Visiting the site

Our servers use your IP address to deliver pages and, in memory only, to limit abusive request rates. Our application logs record the time, the requested page and the response status for monitoring. They do not record your IP address.

Your theme and icon choices are saved in your own browser and are never sent to us.

Feedback form

If you use the form, we store your message, the callsign or email address you choose to give, the time, and your IP address to deal with abuse. We delete the IP address after 90 days. We keep the message for as long as it is useful for improving the service, and delete it on request.

Messages are forwarded to us by email through our mail provider, Lettermint. Your IP address is not included in that email.

Amateur radio data

The map shows public amateur radio transmissions received through the APRS Internet Service. These can include a callsign, position, movement, comments and messages, and we store them to show current and historic activity. They may be kept long term.

A callsign can identify a person. Station pages may appear in search engines, but only with a callsign, station type, last-heard date and a coarse grid square. Tracks, positions and packet history are not offered to search engines.

If you are a licensed operator, you can ask us to stop storing your callsign and delete its history. Use "Request removal" on your station page or the feedback form, and include your callsign. We may ask you to confirm you hold it.

Station badges

Operators can place an aprs.fm badge on their own profile or website. Viewing that page loads the image from our servers, which handle the request like any other: your IP address is used to deliver it and is not written to our logs. The badge shows a callsign, last-heard time and coarse grid square.

Third parties

OpenFreeMap
Serves the map tiles directly to your browser, so it receives your IP address. See openfreemap.org.

We do not sell personal data.

Legal basis and your rights

We process this data based on our legitimate interest in running, securing and improving the service (GDPR Article 6(1)(f)). Feedback is processed because you choose to send it.

You can ask for access to, correction of or deletion of your data, and you can object to its processing. Use the feedback form to contact us. If you are unhappy with our response, you can complain to your data protection authority; in the Netherlands that is the Autoriteit Persoonsgegevens.
